Transition Gateways

o GTS-to-WIS2 Gateway, proposal plus discussion

o WIS2-to-GTS – open discussion on options and how we progress this task

30 min

Kai & All

Discussion: GTS-to-WIS2 Gateway

To decide: how we name the topic and who will do that?

  • connect to ALL GTS (main RTHs)

Q1: Topic name:

(Jeremy) Can we use the GTS header directly? Filename will be provided using GTS? Filename provide enough information on internal location?

(Kai) WIS2 users do not need to know TTAAii header. Not sure all users want GTS traffic. Part of data migrated, as a user, you want both data in transition.

(Weiqing) WIS2 users do not necessarily know the GTS headers. Why? To give a scenario: Half migrated to WIS2, Half remain on GTS via bulletin forms. For example, users want all bulletins from Europe, but part of the countries finish migration. Will the GTS headers be useful in such case?

(Baudouin) data themselves? data as files. What are the differences between file not the message at different locations? Who is pushing the data to ITA? The more we carry with GTS, the more we will stay in GTS phase.

(Kai) WIS2 will not have bulletins anymore. WIS2 one observation per file. We agree that a center doesn’t operate both roles (GTS or WIS2)

(Enrico) Being stuck in GTS, who running as a cache, as a gateway, requirement to provide GTS as it is during transition. Without GTS headers.

(Jeremy) Do we use the topic name using GTS headers?

(Action) Hassan to check if the issue is created, if not, create one issue for this.

Q2: Who will operate the gateway?

(Jeremy) Do more global caches run the gateway? Data needs to be distributed through Global Cache.

(Kai) it is likely to be connected to MTN

(Weiqing) for high reliability,

(Hassan) Global Cache will provide the gateway GTS-to-WIS2.

Summary: Global Cache will be connected to MTN.

WIS2box

  1. Status update for WIS2box project, release schedule, and who’s actively using it

  2. Update on WIS2box user interface

15 min

3.1 Tom

3.2 Max (SYNOPTIC)

Tom: updates on the status of wis2box project.

(Enrico) There will be revolution for wis2box usage as more countries are using it.

Max: updates on the wis2box user interface

(Baudouin) Longtitude is 14 digitals?

(Jeremy) WIS2 box metadata vs OSCAR

(Max) at the moment, it is decoupled.

(Tom) all centers manage metadata locally.

(Enrico) We have training activities coming in June. We decide not to use UI because it is not ready. To download to OSCAR? To upload to OSCAR maybe useful. We have to understand who will operate wis2box and its authority which requires more interaction wis/wigos NFP. More coordination is needed at national level. ToR of NFP will be updated accordingly.

(Timo) Ongoing discussion OSCAR/Surface vs wis2box metadata. OSCAR is an operational system. What codelists do you use for country? (Tom: the same as WCMP2)

Proposals for flagging WIS2 priority issues across multiple GitHub repositories in wmo-im:

Issues for WIS2 Architecture (github.com)

15 min

Anna

It is agreed by the team to use the project across different repositories.

Jeremy will work with Secretariat to go through all the issues and label the priorities.

5

Priority issues* to discuss and resolve:

  1. Any data published as core in TH will be cached in the GC?

  2. Shall we have the same number of notifications in all GBs?

  3. Shall we have synchronisation between all GBs and GCs?

  4. When a GB is down, how to notify customers subscribing to this GB?

  5. Can we accept notification for long series data?

  6. Monitoring:

    1. What to monitor at GB, GC, and WIS2 node levels?

    2. KPIs for WIS2 and for the transition

45 min

All

Not discussed. To be shared with the team members for comments.
