Thanks everyone’s effort. The main goal of today’s meeting is to validate the document and the architecture of the document. And then to collect for suggestions.

Axel (DWD)

  • Go through the document, found it complex. To discuss more data -information management, revise this.

  • information managemnt: scope needs to be discussed

  • to define the scope of the document is important

  • Draft version 1, for us to add things, to develop the document

  • 6 main focus of Hassan’s new edition, a little bit confusing

Question:

  • which page from Confluenc should the team members to work on

    • Hassan: everyone contributes their own part by creating a new page

  • Hassan: we need the definition

  • Axel: when we look at information management, it not only refers to data management, but also includes data processing, data quality management, etc. At the very beginning of the document, it should be the basic structure of information management in a very generic way, which will be followed by usage and examples

  • Hassan: the first step is to discuss the framework of the document

  • Ge Peng: the scope of this list will need to be discussed in the team meeting. We need to determine the scope of the document. Everything here is preliminary.

  • William: IM needs to be defined, including data, all derived products (grid analysis graphs,), be clear how broad the document will be and how broad the information management definition will be.

  • Ge Peng: to agree on the defintion of IM. It is important to determine the scope of the information management before the team to get started.

  • William: forecasts, operational purpose, retention policy

  • Hassan: which kind of information we are dealing with, to clarify what kind of information we are talking about, key inforamtion, WMO information, to develop best pratices

  • Ge Peng: limited to climate data monitoring

  • William: generic information management, forecast, opeartional met service, basic principle applies all forms of data information. What does the information mean in the context of met service

  • Axel: climate data management, should be generic.

  • Ge Peng: get started with the definition of data-> information-> specific

  • Hassan: information for climate

  • Anna: please refer to Res.42

  • Sebbari: IM principles, information life cycle, standards and best practices

  • William Wright: information life cycle, standards and best practices, Summary and conclusion

Action items

To finish the document version 0.1(including the scope, definition, principles) in two weeks
Team members can have a look at the WMO Unified Data Policy (Res.42) which was approved at EC-73 for reference.
When team members finish their parts of documents, please notify the team members, it is ready, to notify the team members.
Xiaoxia to create a working space for the team members to work for version 0.1
