3 Secretariat update

INFCOM II in October

SOFF in operation now.

Question: direction is ok to implement the climate data in the system.

Lucy: extend the WIS2 program to include the climate data.

Enrico: will share the document of the plan with Malawi colleague. Plan to visit Malawi in September or beginning of October. Will contact by email.

Enrico: http://malawi.wis2box.wis.wmo.int/ (malawi.wis2box.wis.wmo.int), only with token, the data can be downloaded. Is it okay that we remove token for people?

Lucy: to leave the password now.

Enrico: There will be a guide how to access the wis2box and how to operate it in September.

4 Malawi update

Amos: data monitoring, recent drop from the SIM card. Connection problem, data has run out , data roaming. Battery issue, go around the country. batteries replacement, waiting for clearing.

resources issue, other challenges is resources. battery issues have been there for months.

Johan: monitor data is impossible. send the team to Malawi on another project converting stations. 44 AWS will be set up to connect to WMO FTP sever. the battery will last for 3 to 4 years.

Enrico: can we plan a meeting in mid-September?

an average of 20 stations , most of them in green.

Hassan: INFCOM presentation and demonstration is key phase of WIS 2.0 implementation. To fix the issues, in August and September.

Enrico: we asked ECMWF to do some impact studies, but we need 20 stations green to see the improvement.

Charles Vanya: development team,, upgrade the station networks, by end of September to meet the anticipation.

Enrico: to focus on the 44 AWS stations is better. And then to extend to other project for other stations. We need to focus on the 44 AWSs.

5 Discussion

Lucy: to put the 44 AWSs in the first place. Some challenges: we are able to identify the problems but with financial issues. We will try our best to replace the battery. We will try to figure out the reason why these stations stop sending data recently.

Enrico: we could help from SOFF and our program. Other challenge is with bigger number of stations, the need of technicians to go for maintenance will increase too.
