WIS 2.0 Pilot Phase

Introduction

An update to the WIS 2.0 implementation plan has been approved by the WMO Commission for Observation, Infrastructure, and Information Systems (INFCOM) during its second session held in Geneva from 24 to 28 October 2022. In the same session, the new Volume II of the Manual on WIS (WMO No. 1060) has been approved. According to the new WIS 2.0 implementation plan, a pilot phase started by the end of 2022 with the aim to refine the technical guidance, to implement all the WIS 2.0 components, including the interoperability frameworks with all WMO pogrammes and do integration tests to be ready to move to the pre-operational phase in 2024 and then to the transition phase by 2025

Goals of the pilot phase

The goals of the pilot phase are:

·         Validate WIS 2.0 architecture        

·         Amend (if needed) technical aspects

·         Deploy Global Services

·         Deploy WIS2 Node

·         Amend "Manual on WIS"

·         Complete "Guide on WIS"

·         Initiate the transition phase

·         Specify WIS 2.0 Monitoring
