Description of the data flow

  1. Data are coming from manned stations via WhatsApp, email, or written text.

  2. A workstation for GTS transmission is equipped with Netsys software. The SYNOP is copied from email or WhatsApp to Netsys (copy and paste).

  3. Netsys is providing a syntax check before sending.

  4. Data are sent to GISC Pretoria (RTH).

  5. There isn’t any acknowledgment of receipt.

  6. GISC Pretoria is responsible to send to other GTS nodes for international exchange.

  7. The following GTS headers are sent by SMMW51, SMMW40.

  8. SYNOP data are not saved for archival purposes.

Issues to be resolved

GTS header SMMW51 not forwarded because not considered for international exchange by GISC Pretoria @Enrico Fucile
Netsys not sending all the messages to GISC Pretoria @Enrico Fucile
Depending on the transmission office (National Met Centre or Kamuzu International Airport), Synops contains the ICAO location indicator FWCL (for NMC) and FWKI (for KIA). We may require a confirmation from SAWS (South African Weather Service) if this also affects messages' credibility and transmission into GTS. @Enrico Fucile
